ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: It’s an hour’s drive from Incheon Airport to L7 Myeongdong, but it’s worth it to be in the heart of the city, steps from shops and the nighttime food vendors offering a variety of Korean cuisine. After a quick elevator ride to the lobby, I was met with the contrasting chic black countertops and the brand’s signature bright yellow accenting the wall behind.

Guests have the option for self-check-in using one of the kiosks, but as those were taken, the front desk team warmly greeted me. Along with my hotel key, I received a list of all the amenities and their floor location, meal vouchers for Floating restaurant in the hotel, and a WOWPASS I could load with money for easy payment.

GUEST QUARTERS: I appreciate having a sizable room when traveling abroad, and I was also happy to see my room offered a view of the bustling city below. As I opened the door to my Standard Double room, I noticed the bathroom to my left and a full-length mirror to my right. The closet and drawers provided enough space to fit all of my clothes. A comfortable chair with a small table sat near the window, and there was an alternative place to work: Thedesk attached to the wall with a single stool and light provided plenty of space. Two boxes of chocolate-dipped biscuits were waiting for me as a welcome snack — perfect to enjoy while unpacking.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: I frequented the hotel’s restaurant most mornings for breakfast, offering a perfect mix of traditional American and Korean options. The Bubble Lounge proved the ideal place to escape my room and work on my laptop. The Long Day Foot Spa on the roof is on my list of things to try on my next visit. There’s also an on-site laundry room; fitness center; and the unmanned store, MAXI BAR, providing a selection of unusual snack options. When I checked in, I received some discounts for the Lotte Duty Free shop just a 10-minute walk from L7, which I visited on my last day.

TOP TAKEAWAYS:

  • Download the NAVER Map app (with English directions) to easily explore the neighborhood on foot. I found a cute café where I enjoyed strawberry iced tea and pastries.
  • Be sure to explore the market; I regret not taking more time to walk around. The smells emanating from the street food carts were heavenly, and stores sold everything from souvenirs to handbags, clothing and snacks.
  • Take advantage of the unmatched skincare you can find in South Korea. I made a specific visit to an Olive Young store so I could get my hands on new products to try.

Why Japan Is Best Explored by Sea with Princess

Japan is a destination that rewards repeat visits because no two regions — or seasons —  feel quite the same. One moment, you’re wandering through centuries-old geisha districts in Kanazawa. The next, you’re watching neon reflections dance across Tokyo streets long after midnight.

Review: Hartwell House

In the library of Hartwell House, I checked the latest weather forecast on my phone. Most immediately, I made sure we had time for a walk in the 90 acres of gardens before the arrival of thunderstorms. I was also monitoring the next day’s weather, which was expected to break the highest ever June temperature in England. Through my smartphone, I benefited from a science that began, in its modern form, in that very room. There, in 1850, the Royal Meteorological Society was founded.
