New room configurations are only part of the extensive renovations at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. Both the Authors’ and Garden Wings were refurbished, bringing original gloss back to these historic spaces. Enjoying an address on the Chao Phraya River and within an easy boat excursion from the Grand Palace, the hotel is also close to the city skytrain and many of Bangkok’s most alluring attractions. Within the hotel, the wellness center and spa offer more than 40 treatments that blend ancient techniques with modern therapies.

New spaces include the Grand Royal Suite in the Authors’ Wing and 12 balconied suites in the Garden Wing. The Grand Royal Suite’s 6,458 square feet of space includes six bedrooms, a private elevator, a formal lounge, two living rooms, study, dining room accommodating 12 guests, expansive bar pantry, fully equipped kitchen and Victorian-styled glass conservatory. The suite occupies the entire first floor of the Authors’ Wing, with an original balcony with sweeping views of the river and tropical gardens.

Each new split-level Garden Suite has floor-to-ceiling windows with river and garden views, marble bathroom, walk-in showers, balcony, dining room, lounge and pantry spread over 861 square feet. Other updates include Le Normandie restaurant, where the fine dining features a menu of French cuisine and a new wine cellar of Old and New World wines. New interior décor boasts handcrafted chandeliers and grand, classic Asian details. In the Authors’ Lounge, the 19th-century design elements now extend to a riverside terrace and gardens with four salons named for famous past literary guests Joseph Conrad, Somerset Maugham, James Michener and Noël Coward.
