The Renaissance Downtown Hotel, Dubai opened its doors this month in the Business Bay district with 298 guestrooms, including 65 suites.

“The spectacular new Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Dubai is a highly anticipated addition to our rapidly growing portfolio in the region,” said Alex Kyriakidis, president and managing director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International. “With its artful design, vibrant and eclectic dining scene and engaging experiences, the hotel embraces the spirit of Dubai as a one-of-a-kind destination and Renaissance as a global lifestyle brand that inspires guests to discover something wonderfully new every time they travel. We are confident it will soon emerge as the newest lifestyle destination for global travelers as well as local residents.”

The hotel’s decor takes inspiration from the surrounding landscape, with sand dune-like patterns and earthy, yet luxurious, color choices. Special touches throughout include metallic art, a hand-blown glass chandelier in the lobby and exposed ironwork beams.

Dining options include BHAR, serving Middle Eastern cuisine; Grounded, a premiere coffee shop; BASTA!, an Italian-style steakhouse meets pizzeria; Bleu Blanc, a Southern French eatery with a wood-fired grill; and Morimoto Dubai, from acclaimed celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto, due to open in December.

Also in December, the hotel welcomes the opening of Six Senses Spa, with six treatment suites, each dedicated to one of the six senses.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
