Set amidst native torote trees and cardon cacti that grow in the Sonoran Desert, Quivira Los Cabos is located at Land’s End on the Baja Peninsula. Here you will find more than three miles of golden beaches accented with sand dunes and sheer granite cliffs: The magnificent backdrop is the Pacific Ocean.
This stark, natural desertscape is where Jack Nicklaus designed another of his signature golf courses, boasting more oceanfront holes than any other development in Cabo. The resulting Quivira Golf Club is so breathtakingly scenic Golf Magazine named it Best New International Course in 2014.
“This is one of the great pieces of property in the world,” Nicklaus said when it opened in December 2014. “We tried to create some excitement on the mountain and in the dunes, and I believe we’ve created a golf course that plays as spectacular as it looks.”
Today, Quivira is undergoing some fine-tuning to the course to enhance playability. However, it retains the signature beauty of Hole 5 — one of the most talked-about holes on the course and definitely my favorite, largely due to its position along sheer granite cliffs with precipitous ocean views. Hole 6, another player favorite, is carved from a massive sand dune base and framed by rocky hills. Nicklaus feels it is one of the most spectacular one-shotters he ever built.
The course starts at sea level by the Quivira Clubhouse, an exclusive oceanfront thatched-roof structure with a torote tree at the entrance (also known as an elephant tree). From sea level the course scales cliffs more than 275 feet above the surf before traversing canyons and arroyos, meandering through dunes and desert and even an old lighthouse circa 1905. It terminates at sea level. “From start to finish, I’d say Quivira has as much pace, variety and spectacular beauty as any course I’ve ever designed,” said Nicklaus.
The all-inclusive course includes food and drink at strategically placed comfort stations. Bloody Marys, hibiscus margaritas, carne asada tacos, quesadillas, sliders and breakfast burritos are some of the daily fare.
Plan on dining at the 4-star Quivira Steakhouse helmed by rising-star Executive Chef David Vidales, located within the Quivira Clubhouse. It is open for breakfast and lunch, but you will need reservations for dinner. (For lunch, try the blackened sea bass, one of my favorite meals at the club). For dinner, it’s all about the steaks, and it is only a matter of time before Chef David starts reaping the accolades and awards so deserving of his talent. Do yourself a favor and dine here before it gets impossible to get a table — after Chef David gets his James Beard nomination. It’s only a matter of time.

May 30, 2025By-the-cabin Yachting Redefines the Cruise Experience
I wish this day could last forever!” my windswept 9-year-old exclaimed, his voice soaring over the Mediterranean. He gripped the helm of a Bali 4.6 sailing catamaran off the coast of Marseille, his sun- bleached hair whipping in the salty breeze. The scent of the sea mingled with the aroma of warm baguettes drifting from the Côte d’Azur shoreline. Our captain, a seasoned sailor, subtly adjusted course, letting my son feel the exhilarating pull of the wind against the sails. As the waves lapped against the hull, I realized this was no ordinary vacation — this was freedom, unfiltered.
