Hyatt Hotels Corporation recently announced the opening of Park Hyatt Johannesburg, in the Rosebank district and marking the brand’s third destination in the African region.

Originally built in the 1930s as a colonial mansion, the building reflects Sir Herbert Baker’s influence. His architectural legacy shaped the character of Johannesburg’s early residential estates. The hotel honored that legacy with a restoration of original features. The central, open-air courtyard, anchored by a jacaranda tree, sculpted gardens and a heated outdoor pool, is only one highlight of the new luxury hotel, as is a locally curated art and design program.

The hotel boasts 31 guestrooms and suites with king-sized beds and floor-to-ceiling windows. Select spaces feature private patios. Art themes within rooms include Sea Algae, Trees, Safari, Forest, Explorer and Leaves, all some of South Africa’s diverse biospheres.

Room 32 restaurant serves cuisine prepared over live-fire grills using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The Lounge offers a sumptuous setting for cocktails, fine wine and premium cigars. A spa is set to open soon, and flexible event space accommodates up to 60 guests.
