It’s nearly time to get colorful in Ventura, California, during the 10^th Annual Ventura & Street Painting Festival. Southern California artists gather 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sept. 8–9, covering the sidewalks of the harbor promenade at Ventura Harbor Village with creative chalk murals. About 45 artists are expected in attendance, with original works also on display and for sale.

Children are encouraged to join in the fun in the Children’s Chalk Area, hosted by the city’s Kids Arts, Inc. For a $10 admission, kids are supplied with plenty of chalk and their own section of sidewalk, where they let their creativity loose in color.

Accomplished chalk artists will include street painter Gus Moran and world-renowned chalk artist (and Ventura resident) Tracy Strum. Artist Rod Tryon, who practiced street painting for more than three decades, will also be part of the festival. While you’re out strolling the promenade and enjoying the art, you can dine at a selection of venues, peruse boutiques and galleries and listen to the live entertainment of Rock on the Dock. Blues-country rock musical act Sean Wiggins performs on a floating stage 3–6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, with more live music in Harbor Village on Sunday, Sept. 9, 1–4 p.m.
