Pablo Escobar, the infamous Colombian drug lord, enters into the family-resort section of the travel industry. The renowned drug kingpin who rose to infamy in the 1980s once owned a palatial property in Tulum, Mexico.

The exact property is now open as a resort for friends and family, showcasing an enticing and truly beautiful property that boasts 35 rooms. The renovation and repurposing is thanks to New York art dealer Lio Malca, who owns the property, and filled the luxury accommodation with items from his collection.

“I purchased the property because I thought it was insane. I could not believe that in this world, a property like this still exists and hasn’t been taken over by a corporation,” said Malca.

Casa Malca’s website paints a vivid picture of a beautiful property that feels quaint and inviting. It’s a spacious beachfront villa, perched above the sand. The house invites ocean breezes and the sound of lapping waves.

From a nine-bedroom mansion to a 35-room hotel with suites and rooms, the property welcomes guests living the Tulum lifestyle. Inside the lobby, guests find paintings, sculptures and furniture by some of the most revered contemporary artists and designers. The pieces are carefully selected by Malca to fit different rooms due to Tulum’s humidity and heat.
