A new W Hotels property is slated to open in Playa del Carmen in 2023. The 218-guestroom W Playa del Carmen is the brand’s first foray into the Yucatan Peninsula.
Plans for the property include a waterfront location within walking distance to upscale shopping and dining. On-property amenities include the brand’s signature venues, such as the WET Deck and AWAY Spa.
“We are excited to work with hotel developer Fibra Inn to open a cutting-edge W hotel in Playa del Carmen, a destination ready for the brand’s bold design, signature Whatever/Whenever service and innovative programming,” said Laurent de Kousemaeker, chief development officer, Caribbean and Latin America, Marriott International. “This important signing underscores the impressive growth of our luxury portfolio in the region — and across Mexico.”
“Our plan for the W Playa del Carmen is critical to our goal to diversify the beach destination’s lodging base, which currently lacks quality luxury lifestyle properties,” added Oscar Calvillo, CEO, Fibra Inn, which owns several properties in the destination. “This project will elevate the offering in this prime destination with this fun and energetic brand.”

Opened this past November, Osaka Excel Tokyu Hotel rethinks the classic Japanese business hotel format in a delightful way. This effect is accomplished with ornate hexagonal lamps, carpeting with geometric shape motifs and pops of happy gold and blue hues. The lobby adds to that with a whimsical, but sophisticated mix of artwork and decorative ornaments, with a color palette and ornamentation that extends to 364 private rooms and suites throughout 17 floors.
