Together, George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport make up the Houston Airport System. In 2015, the two airports collectively serviced more than 55 million passengers, an increase of 4 percent over their 2014 totals. George Bush Intercontinental airport serviced almost 43 million passengers alone, with William P. Hobby Airport making up the remaining 12 million.
George Bush Intercontinental saw an increase of 1 million in terms of domestic passengers, with about the same for international traffic. The airport welcomed five new foreign flag carriers and expanded currently existing international service.
William P. Hobby Airport continues to grow steadily, with a 30 percent increase in demand over the last decade. In 2015, it began international service for the first time in 40 years, with flights being offered to Latin America and the Caribbean.
“Houston’s status as a true global gateway city continues to grow stronger as a result of these record-setting passenger totals. Houston is one of only two municipalities in the United States to offer passengers a choice between two international airports and we are the only city in the western hemisphere to offer nonstop flights to all six inhabited continents,” said Mario Diaz, director, Houston Airport System.
