Jun 28, 2016
Daily

The long-awaited reopening of Ritz Paris brings special perks for Virtuoso travelers. The Parisian hospitality landmark closed in 2012 for extensive renovations to create a new design created by Thierry W. Despont. Now, the hotel features an equal number of suites and guestrooms for a total of 142 accommodations; a bar dedicated to one of the hotel’s favorite guests, Hemingway; the first and only Chanel spa in the world; and facilities for private entrances and exits for celebrities and other VIPs. Guestrooms feature restored antique furnishings and heated floors, and 15 suites are named for famous hotel guests, including Coco Chanel and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Guests have access to two gardens, a heated terrace with retractable roof, three restaurants and three bars. The two-story spa offers a neoclassic pool, hammam and sauna. Guests who book their stay through Virtuoso will enjoy extra perks including a VIP welcome at the airport gate, expedited customs service, limo airport transfers, 24-hour check-in and check-out, guaranteed room upgrades and breakfast for two. “The luxury travel world has been eagerly awaiting the rebirth of this iconic legend. Ritz Paris’ impeccable reputation, fabled history and exceptional guest offerings represent deluxe hospitality at its finest,” said Albert Herrera, senior vice president of global product partnerships, Virtuoso. Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History

All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.

One of Hawai’i’s Most Popular (and Controversial) Attractions Being Demolished

If you haven’t actually climbed them, you’ve seen beautiful photos of them at one time or another: Hawai’i’s Stairway to Heaven, located on Oahu. The 3,922-step hike ascends Koolau Mountain Range and has been illegal to hike since 1987. But this has not stopped travelers and locals from doing so, even with a steep fine of $1,000 for trespassing.
