Evoking the quirky design and swish elegance that are hallmarks of Amsterdam’s best spaces, newly updated The Dylan, Amsterdam is ready to welcome urban explorers. The 5-star boutique property’s 41 rooms, canal-side Keizersgracht location and two Michelin-starred restaurant offer compelling reasons to book a stay. Additionally, the Green Globe-certified property exists within a historic stone theater — the first in the city — designed in 1638 by Jacob van Campen. Amsterdam-based Studio Linse and Format Furniture were tasked with protecting this legacy while imbuing the structure with an aesthetic that both honors this history and embraces modern luxury.
“We wanted the rooms to feel quietly confident,” explained Paul Linse, founder and design director, Studio Linse. “No marble or gold—just materials that speak for themselves.”
The property includes an annex, added in 2014 and renovated from top to bottom in 2024. Known as the Serendipity building, it was originally designed by renowned Dutch interior architect Remy Meijers. Renovations include the addition of ornamental moldings; luxurious carpets; and a color palette of warm, soothing tones created by Studio Linse. In suites, guests will find custom cabinets crafted from oakwood and fitted with quartzite tops, freestanding Vallone tubs, and an eclectic blend of vintage design influences and bespoke furnishings specifically selected for individual spaces.
“Every piece was made to measure,” said Jikke Snelleman, co-founder, Format Furniture. “We worked closely with Studio Linse to ensure the materials and finishes reflected The Dylan’s quiet sophistication. It’s not about opulence—it’s about timelessness.”
After you’ve finished exploring Amsterdam’s alluring nooks and crannies by day, celebrate with an evening meal at Restaurant Vinkeles, where a menu of modern French cuisine is served up in an 18th-century bakery setting. There’s also até, a six-seat chef’s table offering a selection of dishes influenced by the culinary traditions of Mexico, France and Japan.
