The new King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) is scheduled to open by the end of this year after the completion of a multi-million dollar project, according to Prince Fahd bin Abdullah, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, in Arab News. “About 60 percent of the project has been completed and the remaining work will be carried out at a much faster pace to finish on time,” said Prince Fahd. Operations are scheduled to begin in the first five months of 2015. The airport’s two new terminals for domestic and international passengers will expand its annual capacity to 30 million passengers in the first phase of operation and 80 million in the final phase. New facilities will include additional passenger lounges, a concourse building with 25 passenger bridges and connector buildings linking terminals, a renovation of the existing South Terminal and a car-park.
