Moxy, a venture led by David Neeleman, the man behind JetBlue Airways and a controlling investor of TAP Air Portugal, was introduced in July as a new, U.S. low-cost airline.
Airbus announced last week the airline purchased 60 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
“Moxy has its sights set on the future, so I can’t think of a better aircraft to put into their fleet than the A220,” said Christian Scherer, CCO, Airbus “We believe the A220 really is the future of this segment of the market, and the flying public will know from the minute they set foot onboard that they’re experiencing the best our industry has to offer.”
“The A220-300 is the right airplane for a new airline that will be focused on passenger service and satisfaction,” added Neeleman. “With a low cost of operation and spacious cabin, the A220 will allow us to provide passengers with lower fares and a high quality, comfortable flying experience. The A220’s ability to operate profitably in thin, underserved markets across a broad spectrum of ranges is unique.”
The Airbus A220 aircraft are built for the 100–150-seat market, with high fuel efficiency and comfort, despite the single aisle. Airlines around the world ordered more than 500 A220 aircraft to date.
