The stereotypical image of American millennials is a person glued to a smartphone screen, but a new survey shows this group is more willing to unplug from technology like phones while on vacation, more so than Generation X counterparts. A study by Intel Security showed 49 percent of millennials in the United States would unplug on vacation, while only 37 percent of Generation X respondents — aged between 40 and 50 years old — said the same. Intel’s data also showed 65 percent of people defined being “unplugged” as having no internet usage at all, while 50 percent said it means they did not make phone calls while on vacation. The survey also showed most people manage to stay plugged in while on vacation, with 55 percent of respondents reporting they were unable to disconnect while on a trip. Some 65 percent said they enjoyed their vacation more when they unplugged, however, feeling less stress and a greater ability to enjoy their surroundings. And here’s a good sign: 88 percent said it doesn’t stress them out to unplug, though 68 percent said they checked their personal work and email at least once a day while on vacation.
