A 21-year-old pilot from Malaysia has earned a place in the record books. Capt. James Anthony Tan traveled more than 21,000 nautical miles across 20 countries within a 50-day period to set the first official record in Malaysia’s Book of Records as the youngest Malaysian and ASEAN pilot to ever attempt the journey.
Tan, who flew in a single-engine Cessna 201 Silver Eagle aircraft, completed the expedition when he arrived back in Malaysia on May 14. His around-the-world itinerary included stops in Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Jordan.
Tan has become an unofficial tourism ambassador for Malaysia, bearing the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 logo on his plane while flying around the world.
“Malaysia is my home,” said Tan. “We have many things to see and even in a lifetime, I would not be able to witness all the wonders of my country.”
