French street artist JR will get the chance of a lifetime this summer when he’ll have the opportunity to transform the famous Louvre Pyramid into a work of anamorphic art.

JR is known around the world for his transformations, which involve adhering posters or projecting video of his photography in large scale, black-and-white images on buildings. His art focuses on the human face.

JR, whose identity is kept secret, will exhibit from May 25 to June 27 at the Louvre. The exhibit will be displayed for the Louvre Auditorium and the Cour Napoleon, also known as the Pyramid, which was designed by I.M. Pei.

The museum’s website says JR “has chosen the biggest gallery in the world to showcase his art: public spaces”.

Now, “invited by the ‘biggest museum in the world’ — which also generates the most selfies  — JR has set his sights on one of the Louvre’s symbols, the Pyramid, which he intends to transform with a surprising anamorphic image.”

Anamorphic images are distorted so the viewer can only see them from a particular vantage point.
