Frequent Korean Air passengers should be aware of major changes to the airline’s loyalty program.
These include allowing passengers to pay for flights using miles and cash, more balanced mileage accrual rates and a more inclusive elite membership program.
The first big change hits next November when the airline will let passengers book flights using a combination of miles and cash. This will let passengers use smaller sums of miles to bring flights down in cost. The change makes mileage redemption more accessible. The amount of miles needed to redeem flights also gets an overhaul based on flight distance and not the region of travel.
The changes mean 64 routes require fewer miles, 49 require more and 12 routes remain the same. Domestic flights will see no change.
Elite membership qualifications are being lowered. Beginning February 2022, passengers need to earn 10,000 miles or take 10 flights to earn elite membership. Overall, the change should provide greater benefits to passengers.
