Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced plans to open the brand’s first Caribbean resort in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Scheduled to open in 2016, the hotel will be located on the site of the former Courtyard by Marriott on West Bay Road, which was closed and demolished due to damage from Hurricane Rita in 2008. The unnamed property will feature 263 guestrooms, 56 residences, five restaurants and lounges, an oceanfront pool and a spa. “Expanding into the Caribbean was an easy decision for us because of our already strong presence in the major feeder markets such as South Florida, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Dallas,” said Mike Depatie, CEO of Kimpton. “Grand Cayman, with its pristine beaches, world famous diving and diverse, sophisticated melting pot of cultures, made this particular island an especially good fit for a debut of the Kimpton experience in the Caribbean.”
