Kempinski’s presence in Cuba is set to continue growing with the announcement the brand is developing the first 5-star resort on the Caribbean island.
Kempinski has had a presence on the island for two years, managing the country’s first 5-star city hotel, the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski La Habana. Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski is set for a 2019 opening.
The resort is set to sit about 300 miles east of Havana. It will offer guests reclusive luxury away from the crowds of familiar tourist destinations. The resort looks to capture the authenticity of Cay Guillermo and was inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s legacy at the spot.
The resort will offer 245 rooms and suites, including six overwater villas. The suites and villas offer unobstructed views of the ocean (as do standard rooms) and private pools.
Kempinski is looking to convey a feeling of “barefoot luxury,” complete with spas and yoga, a wide range of culinary choices and extensive pool landscapes. The resort will also include a kid’s club, gym, tennis court, lobby bar and cigar bar.
“With Gran Hotel Mazana Kempinski, we introduced the concept of luxury hospitality to the city of Havana and are honoured to have also been selected as management company for the first ever luxury resort in the country,” said Markus Semer, chairman, management board and CEO, Kempinski Hotels.
