On an evening in August, trazeetravel.com feted the winners of its 11th annual The Trazees, and whereverfamily.com celebrated the winners of its eighth annual Wherever Awards at Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. The venue was the perfect host for a gorgeous evening of celebration. FXExpress Publications, Inc.’s 2025 Industry Leader Awards were also presented.

In addition, the first Joey Fecci Award for Culinary Excellence was awarded to Chef Rashida Holmes of L.A.’s Bridgetown Roti. The award honors the memory of Chef Joey Fecci, formerly of Yolan at The Joseph in Nashville, Tennessee. Sadly, Fecci passed away at the age of 26, and the award honors chefs under age 40 who embody the values Fecci lived every day.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
