JetBlue announced last week it will become the first airline to offer complimentary high-speed WiFi on every aircraft.
The free WiFi will allow domestic passengers to stream content from Amazon video, connect to the internet and messaging apps and use multiple devices. Shoppers can browse through Amazon while earning JetBlue’s TrueBlue points for each dollar spent. The airline also offers DIRECTV service and SiriusXM radio across its entire fleet.
WiFi is available once passengers board the flight, instead of waiting until the plane reaches cruising altitude.
“It’s 2017 and our customers expect to be connected to everything, whether that be from the comfort of their sofa or 35,000 feet above it,” said Jamie Perry, vice president, JetBlue. “That’s why we’re so proud that JetBlue is now the only airline to offer free, high-speed WiFi, live TV and movies for all customers on every plane.”
FlyFi is nothing new, as the service was originally introduced in December 2013 and has slowly expanded over the years. JetBlue recently installed FlyFi on its fleet of 200-plus 227 Airbus A320, A321 and Embraer 190 aircraft. FlyFi is only currently available over the contiguous United States.
Airline competitors like American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines currently charge customers for daily WiFi access.
