JetBlue passengers with long layovers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York will no longer have to settle for catching a nap at the gate. The airline opened new “nap pods,” the first commercial airline to offer the sleeping spaces in the United States. The pods, called JetNap EnergyPods, are made on Long Island by MetroNaps. There are four consumer pods in Terminal 5: two at Gate 27 and two at Gate 17. There are also two pods reserved for JetBlue crew members. JetBlue may add more down the line if they get a lot of use. The pods are available on a first come, first serve basis, and they’re actually free of charge for JetBlue customers. Naps will be limited to 20 minutes, though. The pods allow travelers to recline on synthetic leather cushions. There are also two internal storage bins and a spherical visor that swivels around the front of the pod to envelop the user in darkness and allow privacy. There are also built-in music players and Bose speakers, or you can play music through your own headphones. This also allows for canceling out the ambient noise of the airport. An internal timer wakes you up with lights, music and vibration after 20 minutes.
