American Airlines is now the official airline partner of the James Beard Foundation in a new, multiyear contract.

The program brings new menu items in Flagship First Dining and Flagship Lounges as of Dec. 3. Access began Dec. 11 for passengers in Flagship First and Flagship Business from the United States to Europe or South America, plus transcontinental flights between New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO).

The program will see James Beard Award-winning chefs designing menu items. First up is Top Chef alum Sarah Grueneberg of Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio in Chicago. The menus will be available onboard and in lounges. Her items for Flagship First Dining will include grilled Roman-style artichokes with black truffle, fontina fonduta and fresh lemon; mushroom bolognese incorporating fusilli pasta, cremini and porcini mushrooms, peas, carrots and Parmigiano Reggiano; and dark chocolate Budino featuring candied citrus, mandarin olive oil, feuilletine chocolate crunch and fresh whipped cream.

“A premier culinary partner like the James Beard Foundation provides unique and delicious offerings for our customers,” said Janelle Anderson, vice president of marketing, American Airlines. “We’re honored to work with their roster of award-winning chefs who embody diversity, modernism and sustainable practices in the culinary world today.”

“We couldn’t be more pleased to launch our exclusive partnership with American,” added Kris Moon, chief operating officer, James Beard Foundation. “Consumers are increasingly supporting brands that are focused on improving our world. Joining forces with American allows us to bring our Good Food For Good mission to the skies while also helping consumers enjoy the deliciousness of our food world.”

Why Japan Is Best Explored by Sea with Princess

Japan is a destination that rewards repeat visits because no two regions — or seasons —  feel quite the same. One moment, you’re wandering through centuries-old geisha districts in Kanazawa. The next, you’re watching neon reflections dance across Tokyo streets long after midnight.

Choose Your Own Island Vibe in French Polynesia

“We are on small, tiny rocks, isolated in the middle of the largest ocean.” On a nature tour on the atoll of Tetiaroa, my naturalist guide, Thierry Sommers, thus reminded me of the oceanic remoteness of our location in the South Pacific. I was staying at The Brando, a luxurious private island resort that sits a mere 30-minute flight from the main island of Tahiti but still feels gloriously far away from regular civilization.
