Iberia confirmed the first four routes featuring its new premium economy seats are set for later this year. Bookings are now available for premium-economy seating on flights starting in May to Chicago (ORD) and New York City (JFK), August to Miami (MIA) and September to Boston (BOS).
The airline is in the process of retrofitting the seat onto 21 long-haul aircraft, eight Airbus 330-300s and 13 A340s during 2017 and 2018. There will be 16 A350s factory-fitted with the new product once delivered, after 2018.
“Our customers have a variety of preferences and priorities, and Iberia is adapting in order to meet all those needs,” said Marco Sansavini, chief commercial officer, Iberia. “The new premium economy is designed to reach a new kind of traveler who seeks enhanced service before and during international flights, but does not wish to elect for business class.”
The seat includes a width of 19 inches, 37 inches of pitch, 40 percent more recline compared to economy and a larger in-flight entertainment screen.
Other features of premium economy include an adjustable head and foot rest, noise-canceling headphones and an exclusive amenity kit. Passengers will benefit from priority boarding, an extra suitcase allowance and upgraded dining options, among other privileges.
