Hyatt Regency opens once again in the Shaanxi capital, with the 298-guestroom Hyatt Regency Xi’an.
“As the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and a strategic hub for the contemporary Belt and Road initiative, Xi’an is one of the most visited leisure and business destinations in northwest China. We are thrilled to welcome back the Hyatt Regency brand to this historic city, further reinforcing Hyatt’s commitment to growing its brand presence in key cities around the world,” said Christopher Koehler, vice president and managing director, operations, China, Hyatt International.
The new property is a 45-minute drive from Xi’an Xianyang International Airport and conveniently close to popular tourist attractions and the Xi’an Convention Centre. The hotel’s design reflects the Tang Dynasty and history of the region, with high ceilings, an extensive grand lobby and an entryway lined with torches. Chinese lanterns and symbols of prosperity are found throughout the décor.
The 298 guestrooms and suites begin at 50 square metres and expand to 258 square metres. Each standard guestroom offers views of Qujiang Lake and modern amenities. Each of the 33 suites includes a private balcony and access to the Regency Club lounge. The Presidential and Chairman’s suites each boast terraces, private pools and private kitchens.
Guests choose from three dining options. The Lounge is spread across three spaces decorated to reflect three sections of the Silk Road. Snacks and signature dishes are available all day. The Market Café serves Eastern and Western cuisines from an à la carte menu. Hu Pan cooks up regional specialties and offers 10 private dining spaces.
“Xi’an has long held a special place in the heart of Chinese civilization. As a native of Xi’an, it is my honor to welcome back new and former guests,” said Z. Du, general manager, Hyatt Regency Xi’an. “This hotel allows them to truly experience the very best of our city and its incredible culture.”

All archaeology-obsessed eyes turned hopefully toward Egypt earlier this year when the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo finally began welcoming visitors after construction delays, funding roadblocks and political upheaval in the region (among other factors) conspired to keep things delayed for many long years. The museum’s cherry on the top is slated to open this summer, with the July opening of the museum’s 20-plus-years-in-the-making Tutankhamen galleries and accompanying cache of some 5,000 artifacts and treasures from the boy king’s tomb.
