Little girls with their hair in curls twirled around the hotel and plopped down in packs during our stay at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. Hosting a weekend-long dance competition, the 1,120-room hotel was almost filled to capacity. Despite the crowds, we were quickly checked into our 16th-floor guestroom.
We stepped into a glass-enclosed elevator and met the bellman at our standard queen, wheelchair-accessible guestroom with two beds and a roll-in shower. The modern room was a relaxing palette of taupe and browns. The graphic print on tall headboards and mirrored river artwork suits the downtown location. The large room featured a flat-screen television, desk, mini-fridge, safe, coffee set-up and free WiFi. A motion-activated night light was a welcome amenity. Before heading out to see the sights, we stopped by Coffee Post, a 24-hour market, with beverages, pastries, sandwiches, snacks and a nice selection of Texas-made gourmet treats like a milk chocolate cowboy boot. We picked up a couple of bottles of water in preparation for a morning stroll at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, which is less than 10 miles from the hotel. In the afternoon, we returned to the hotel and took a 50-story elevator ride up to the Reunion Tower GeO-Deck located next door. The newly renovated observation deck provides an unobstructed view of the Dallas skyline. Guests of the Hyatt Regency receive a 20 percent discount off the admission price. In the evening, we attended the world premiere of a new play at the nearby Dallas Theater Center. Hungry after the performance, we stopped by Parrino’s Oven, an Italian bistro inside the Hyatt. While sipping our wine, we discussed the performance’s political message. The Hyatt Regency provided an ideal location from which to explore the city and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. Our weekend of Dallas culture was delightful.
