The largest medical complex in the world, the Texas Medical Center encompasses 1,300 acres and welcomes 7.2 million visitors each year. The Houston Marriott Medical Center hotel is located in the heart of TMC. The Marriott recently revamped its interior with a multimillion-dollar renovation. For our weekend stay, we checked into an ambassador suite. The 650-square-foot accommodation features a living and dining space separate from the bedroom. The living room offers a large, L-shaped sofa which can convert into a bed. The dining table with seating for three sits beside a buffet with a Keurig coffeemaker, microwave and mini fridge. Guests can enter the roomy, wheelchair-accessible bathroom either from the foyer or the bedroom. The large bedroom features an elevated king-sized bed and a flat-panel television. Guests with allergy sensitivities may prefer one of the hotel’s PURE guestrooms. The 21 rooms located on the ninth floor include air purifiers, special bedding encasements and additional hypoallergenic features. Other hotel amenities include a well-equipped fitness center, outdoor swimming pool and a complimentary shuttle for destinations within a two-mile radius. Structured for the business traveler, the concierge lounge service operates Monday–Thursday 6:30 a.m.–10 p.m.; Friday 6:30 a.m. to noon; and Sunday 5:30 p.m.–10 p.m. We enjoyed a delicious Cuban-inspired dinner menu on Sunday night with a choice of two entrées. Cocktails are available for a fee. Dessert is presented at 7:30 p.m. Monday morning’s self-serve breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, oatmeal, cereal, fruit, bagels, toast and muffins provided a hearty start to the day. The hotel’s on-site dining includes two restaurants and a Starbucks. Directly outside the hotel, the METRORail provides an easy way to access Houston’s museum district, Hermann Park or downtown. A skyway connects the hotel to Houston Methodist Hospital. Several other major institutions such as Texas Children’s Hospital and MD Cancer Center are steps away. The staff at the hotel is professional and the property feels brand-new. Business travelers will find the Marriott is an excellent choice, and we highly recommend booking an ambassador suite, especially if you plan to conduct meetings at the hotel.
