There is nothing like this Global City Guidebook, and if you picked up a copy in Chicago, it was most likely at one of the host hotels during the annual Global Business Travel Association conference. Our GCGB is an annual favorite and offers readers one-page city reports from around the world; we did not invent the concept, just improved upon the idea that has run in various publications for many years.
Our entire team works together to select an eclectic list of global destinations. To help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, we have a special selection of destinations from across the country that contributed to the iconic symbols and moments making up our great nation.
Lots of travel this month as I spend a couple of weeks relaxing, enjoying family and playing some golf in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Before that I have a business trip to South Carolina, and I am bringing my two Dalmatians, Ella and Oliver. They will hang out at a historic 100-year-old farmhouse while I have my meeting — I hope they don’t chew the place up!
While in the OBX, I look forward to having a dinner or two at Ocean Boulevard in Kitty Hawk and chitchatting with owners Danny and Heather King. Perhaps I will partake in a rye Manhattan, a specialty of the house, along with its fine local cuisine.
I’m also planning a trip to Korea to meet with our wonderful clients there, such as Seoul Tourism and Korean Air, and to experience and write about the transition of Asiana Airlines as it merges with Korean Air. This is your last chance to experience Asiana; after the final flight on Dec. 17, 2026, the brand will cease to exist and will be part of Korean Air.
This will create a powerful global brand; stay tuned for the August issue, where we will release exciting news about the high status of Korean Air’s onboard services.
On Aug. 3 I will attend The Trazees and Wherever Awards (trazeetravel.com and whereverfamily.com) at beautiful The Peninsula Chicago. Please join us as we celebrate the best in travel and award our winners. Special overnight rates are available.
Lastly, next month look for the Wines on the Wing announcement issue which covers the painstaking steps the Global Traveler team and airlines take to secure the carriers’ wines from around the world through U.S. customs in time for the event. Some wine was rejected at the border, and much was personally escorted by both airline personnel and GT staff, including yours truly. One airline’s submissions were picked up in London and flown back to Jacksonville, Florida, via Boston by our own Aoife O’Riordan and transferred to me. Nothing is more fun than driving cases of wine from Florida back to Pennsylvania to make the judging!
Enjoy the summer … and when you order a glass of wine, think of us as we rank and improve your onboard experience.
