Examples of Russian art spanning the last two centuries are on display at the Sinebrychoff and Didrichsen Art Museums in Helsinki through May 15. The show, Soviet Art from the Arefyev Collection, is a compilation of works from the collection of Mikhail Arefyev and private collections from other countries, all on view for the first time in Finland.

The theme is socialist realism from the 1960s and 1970s, along with several paintings from the avant-garde, Late and Post-Soviet years immediately following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The exhibition explores the use of art as propaganda, and the gradual introduction of realistic depictions of ordinary working people. Works by 31 artists, including Alexander Deineka (1899–1969) and his large scale Good Morning, are featured.
