Hainan Airlines latest uniform, dubbed Rosy Clouds, debuted June 6. The uniform is a fusion of the Cheongsam, a traditional Chinese gown, with Western draping. Clouds, waves and mythical birds add touches to the soft grey color palette.
Designed by China-born and Paris-based Laurence Xu, the new uniforms were also designed to be functional and practical. More than 1,000 design drafts and more than 100 samples were tested before deciding on a final version. A three-quarter sleeve helps flight attendants stay warm in the cabin, while the lightweight fabric was used in consideration of fuel consumption.
Inspired by a poetic theme of “rosy clouds filling the sky,” the uniform combines an under slip, a coat and an overcoat incorporating international design concepts.
