Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts announced the expansion of its portfolio on the African continent with the signing of a management agreement with the owners of The Westcliff hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. Located on a cliffside garden estate in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, the property will reopen as the Four Seasons Hotel Westcliff Johannesburg in the second quarter of 2014 after undergoing renovations. The hotel will feature an expanded outdoor terrace, a new restaurant, a spa, a fitness center and outdoor pool. “Africa’s economic growth, improved stability and ease of travel have made the continent increasingly attractive to luxury travelers and Four Seasons,” said Scott Woroch, executive vice president of worldwide development for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. “Having a property in Johannesburg — the gateway to the whole of southern African — is essential as we explore opportunities for growth in South Africa and across the continent.” The new property is the latest Four Seasons hotel in sub-Saharan Africa. Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti opened in Tanzania in 2012, featuring 77 guestrooms with 12 suites, plunge pools and five villas with private swimming pools.
