Over New Year’s, travelers arriving in California flocked to several primary locations — Pasadena for the Rose Bowl and South Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes for the pristine skiing. Hotel rates over New Year’s reflected this, according to a recently released survey from LosAngelesHotels.org.
The hotel comparison site found Pasadena boasted the priciest hotel rates in California during the beginning of this month, with room rates across the city starting at $321.
In South Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes, prices hovered around $300 for New Year’s, but the survey says these rates are far above and beyond what South Lake Tahoe normally costs travelers in January. By now, rates are back to a more agreeable starting point.
Some other popular California destinations for the turn of the year include Los Angeles and Palm Springs.
Next year, travelers in need of a budget-friendly California stay over New Year’s look to this year’s most affordable destinations, which include Eureka, Bakersfield and Fresno.
