Adventures on the Gorge offers thrill seekers an exciting fall glamping opportunity during Gauley season in New River Gorge National Park & Preserve in West Virginia.
Gauley season marks the time when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers releases water from the Summersville Dam into the Gauley River below. The release results in excellent whitewater rapid conditions. Gauley season takes place in September and October. The releases take place Friday–Monday, offering travelers the opportunity to plan long weekends around the releases. This year’s releases are Sept. 9–12, 16–19, 23–26; Sept. 30–Oct. 3; and Oct. 7–10 and 15–16.
