Sail away into the Pacific Rim National Park with Canadian-based Outer Shores Expeditions aboard the Passing Cloud, a 70-foot classic wooden schooner. A series of eight separate sailings will take place between April 12 and May 17, each traversing the waters surrounding the hundreds of islands that make up the Broken Group Islands in British Columbia’s Barkley Sound. Themed sailings dubbed Ancient Civilizations and West Coast Wilderness provide an opportunity to experience the area’s maritime heritage, wilderness and wildlife, along with an introduction to the indigenous Nuu-chah-nulth culture.

A special feature of this sailing series allows guests special access to explore the traditional territories of the Huu-ay-aht, Tseshaht, Uchucklesaht, Toquaht and Ucluelet Nations. Led by Outer Shores Expeditions founder, owner and marine ecologist Captain Russell Markel, the series will focus on the relationship between the land and sea. Activities include kayaking, whale watching and excursions to view bears and wildlife. Outings to islands will provide guests the chance to learn about old growth rain forests, rocky intertidal zones, kelp forest communities, estuaries and the network of fjords between the islets and islands.
