Day 1: Cork City – Markets, Butter & Whiskey
Cork City is Ireland’s culinary heartbeat and your first day is all about diving into its flavors.
Morning: The English Market
Start at iconic English Market, a covered food hall dating back to 1788. Wander past stalls of farmhouse cheeses, smoked fish, Cork spiced beef, local honey and artisan breads. Grab breakfast at Farmgate Café, overlooking the market floor.
Midday: The Butter Museum
Walk to Cork Butter Museum, where you’ll learn how Cork became the world’s largest butter-exporting port in the 19th century. It’s a quirky, charming stop that highlights the region’s dairy heritage. After a look around, head into Shandon sweets, open almost a century and is still owned by the same family. It is Ireland’s last remaining traditional sweet factory preserving historic methods.
Afternoon: Middleton Distillery
Head east to Midleton, home of Jameson Distillery Midleton, where Ireland’s most famous whiskey is crafted. Enjoy a premium tasting or a behind-the-scenes maturation tour.
Dinner: Cork City Dining
Return to the city for dinner at Market Lane, Isaac’s or Orchard Thieves — all champions of local produce. Expect West Cork lamb, Ballycotton seafood and seasonal vegetables from nearby farms.
