Etihad Airways has entered into a codeshare agreement with Serbia’s JAT Airways. Recent industry reports had suggested talk of Etihad buying a stake in JAT, but Etihad CEO James Hogan said in a news conference Monday that any such discussion was premature.

Subject to government and regulatory approval, JAT will add its JU code to flights to 21 destinations within Etihad’s network, while Etihad will put its EY code on all 23 JAT flights within Europe. Etihad will begin operating non-stop flights between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade on June 15.

Etihad Airways will operate a two cabin Airbus A319 aircraft on the service between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade, configured to carry 106 passengers, with 16 seats in Pearl Business Class and 90 seats in Coral Economy Class.

“The launch of Etihad Airways’ flights between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade, and the partnership development with JAT Airways, will cater for the significant and growing demand for air travel between the U.A.E. and Serbia, as well as cities with large Serbian populations around the world, particularly in Australia and the United States,” said Etihad CEO James Hogan.

As part of the codeshare agreement, subject to government and regulatory approval, JAT Airways will place its JU code on Etihad Airways flights to Abu Dhabi and beyond to Bangkok, Beijing, Brisbane, Chengdu, Chicago, Colombo, Ho Chi Minh City, Islamabad, Johannesburg, Karachi, Kuala Lumpur, Kuwait, Lahore, New York, Melbourne, Seychelles, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.
