Emirates is flying the world’s shortest Airbus A380 superjumbo flight, using the plane on two of its three daily flights to Muscat. The route covers 340 kilometers and takes only 40 minutes, which the airline says represents “five minutes longer than the time taken to clean an A380 by a team of 42 people.”

According to Bloomberg, the airline was forced to make the change due to the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max, which affected partner carrier Flydubai’s schedules. The carrier uses a Boeing 777-300ER on the third daily Dubai–Muscat service.

The A380 in use is configured for three classes, with 429 seats in economy, 76 in business class and 14 first-class suites.

“The incredibly popular Emirates A380 has arrived in Oman and we are pleased to give our customers travelling between Muscat and Dubai the opportunity to experience the iconic products and services on this aircraft,” said Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, divisional senior vice president commercial operations centre, Emirates.
