Eat, Stay And Play In Boston

Boston might not be the first destination you’d consider for a winter weekend getaway, but think again. Summer tourists are long gone. College students are settled into a routine. Savoring a hot toddy in a cozy, fire-placed dining room is the cold-weather equivalent of sipping chardonnay in a sidewalk café. Plus, the rates are great.

Take advantage of the Fairmont Copley Plaza’s Copley Place Shopping including a $50 American Express Simon Giftcard good at any of the more than 65 fabulous stores (Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York, Tiffany & Co., Jimmy Choo, Salvatore Ferragamo, David Yurman, Louis Vuitton, Emporio Armani, Christian Dior, Burberry … the list goes on) at Copley Place and a gift bag filled with treats from some of the upscale mall’s most popular retailers.

Drop your shopping bags back at the hotel and stroll a few blocks to the Boston Common Frog Pond. Rent a pair of skates and hit the ice. There’s a warming area for between-spin breaks.

By now you’ve worked up an appetite. Get your bearings by looking for the Golden Dome of the State House. Exit Boston Common onto Beacon Street and take a right. You’re within a few minutes’ walk of XV Beacon, a cozy boutique hotel located in a landmark Beaux Arts building once occupied by the Boston School Committee. Settle into a seat at the hotel bar, Mooo (yes … beef is a specialty), order that hot toddy and take a look at the menu. Start with the Wagyu dumplings (you’ve earned it) and take it from there.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.

The Art of Balance in Seoul: Beyond the Boardroom

The value of a destination is no longer defined solely by infrastructure, efficiency or scale. Increasingly, it is measured by a city’s ability to balance productivity with well-being — creating opportunities for focus, restoration and more meaningful connections.
