The Czech Republic welcomes spring with its annual rollout of Easter Markets. In Prague, head to three of the city’s most loved squares — Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and the Square of the Republic — to shop for wooden toys, beautiful puppets, handcrafted lace and brightly decorated eggs. Demonstrations of traditional crafts such as candle making are accompanied by plenty of food, music and dance. You can even venture beyond Prague via steam locomotive to take part in holiday festivities held in historic locations including Křivoklát Castle and Silesian Ostrava Castle.

From March 20–April 3, the Easter Festival of Sacred Music will be part of the International Music Festival in Brno. Concert performances by choirs, soloists and symphonies will be held in settings including the Baroque Church of St. John and the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the historic quarter. From March 26–28, the Little Wooden Town of the open-air museum in the Moravian Wallachia village of Rožnov will be the backdrop for folklore ensembles and Easter caroling. Live music provided by local dulcimer bands set the ambiance for šmigrust (good mood), while numerous handicraft demonstrations will include the making of kraslice (Easter eggs), tatar (Easter sticks), rapáč (ratchets), birch twig whisks and whistles.
