The first half of 2016 was the busiest six months in the history of Denver International Airport, seeing more than 27.5 million passengers pass through the airport through the end of June. Year-to-date passenger traffic was nearly 7 percent higher than the same period in 2015. June 2016 hit a new monthly record, as well — 5,208,947 passengers, an increase of 8.4 percent over June 2015. The first half of 2016 brought DEN the following new routes, adding to its roster of more than 170 non-stop destinations:
- Service to Munich (MUC) on Lufthansa
- Service to Montreal (YUL) on Air Canada
- New routes on Frontier Airlines to Charlotte (CLT); Philadelphia (PHL); Columbus (CMH); Washington, D.C. (IAD); San Antonio (SAT); and Pittsburgh (PIT)
- New carriers include Virgin America and Sun Country Airlines
- United Airlines launched routes to Hartford (BDL) and Richmond (RIC)
- Southwest added service to Buffalo (BUF); Charleston (CHS); and Norfolk (ORF)

- Great Lakes service to Salina, Kan. (SLN)
“June marks the 10th consecutive record-setting month for passenger traffic at Denver International Airport and the busiest month in the history of the airport, driven by increases in airline capacity,” said Kim Day, CEO, DEN. “We have also celebrated the addition of two new carriers and nine new non-stop destinations in just the first half of this year, and continue to seek out even more options to connect our passengers with the rest of the world.” International passenger traffic in June increased 10 percent compared to 2015, with a total 206,330 passengers. June marked Lufthansa’s first full month of service to Munich. Air Canada launched the non-stop Montreal service in June, as well. Mail, freight and express cargo operations also increased by 6.7 percent over the previous year.
