Delta Air Lines announces dining and aircraft changes to take place next year.

Starting in 2018, Delta One passengers can pre-select in-flight meals six days prior to select international flights, including those from Atlanta (ATL) and New York (JFK) to Europe.

“Our customers have told us that they value having more control over their experience inflight, specifically around selecting their meal options in advance to ensure they receive their first choice. This is just another way we are providing options to our customers to make sure their culinary experience onboard is like dining at their favorite local restaurant,” said Lisa Bauer, vice president, on-board services, Delta.

After the initial launch, the pre-select option expands to all international routes, both inbound and outbound, between the United States and Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and South America. It also expands to Delta Premium Select by the end of 2018.

Passengers in Delta’s international Main Cabin are not left out. As early as November, new menu cards include information on service timing and food and beverage offerings. Upgraded cutlery appears in December. Next year, upgraded meals and new service ware arrive on long-haul international flights.

“This is one of Delta’s biggest investments in the Main Cabin dining experience to date,” continues Bauer. “We know that people eat with their eyes, so investing in our serviceware and cutlery onboard to enhance the overall presentation and functionality of our meals is a big part of our culinary strategy. Customers also told us that they’d like to have more information on when and what they’ll be served, so we’ve created customer experience menu cards that will provide more details to our customers, so they can sit back, relax and enjoy their flight without wondering when their next service will be.”

Beyond dining, the Main Cabin and Delta Comfort+ pillows receive an upgrade on international long-haul flights.

Effective March 31, Delta’s Airbus A350 service expands to routes between Detroit (DTW) and Amsterdam (AMS), the first trans-Atlantic destination for the aircraft. Starting April 19, the A350 joins the Detroit–Shanghai (PVG) route.
