Delta Air Lines is celebrating a major milestone in the carrier’s history — its 70th anniversary at Miami International Airport. The carrier launched service to Miami on Dec. 1, 1945, making it the airport’s longest-serving airline. The inaugural flight 70 years ago from Miami to Chicago (ORD) operated with a Douglas DC-3, with only 21 passengers. Today, Delta serves nearly 2.5 million passengers annually at Miami.
“We are proud to celebrate the longevity and significant contributions that Delta has made in our community,” says Emilio T. Gonzalez, director, Miami-Dade Aviation. “As our longest serving airline, we are honored to have so many past and present employees here to celebrate this historic milestone.”
