Delta Air Lines’ employees recently got a first look at prototypes for a new, modern uniform collection, after more than 1.5 years of development and design. The collection was created with feedback from the airline’s 70,000 uniformed employees, including airport customer service agents, cargo agents, flight attendants, ground equipment mechanics and aircraft technicians.
“Delta has tens of thousands of uniformed employees, all with different needs and preferences,” said Ranjan Goswami, SVP of Customer Experience Design, Delta Air Lines. “That means any evolution of the uniform program will take time and deliberation to get right. We are committed to using this time to listen, learn and iterate as we work toward a new look – one that reflects and celebrates who we are as Delta.”
Delta partnered with GPS Apparel by Gap Inc. to bring the prototype to life, collecting feedback from more than 20,000 employees on future uniform designs through job shadows, focus groups, surveys and interviews. The prototypes boast deep navy blues, rich burgundy, and bright red and white accents. Ease of movement, breathability, inclusive fit, durability and distinct design elements are at the core of the uniform ethos. The garments will be made from OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100-certified fabrics and components.
Designers also incorporated the iconic Delta widget logo across the collection. First seen in 1959, the widget from the tails of the airline’s aircraft represents the spirit and culture of the airline – a flat base to symbolize a solid foundation with the top pointing skyward.
