Dallas Fort Worth International Airport changes curbside areas at all five terminals to active loading and unloading zones, effective Sept. 8. The change is intended to improve the flow of traffic and traveler safety. Those dropping off or picking up a passenger are encouraged to use the terminal parking garages when doing so at no extra cost. The airport recently added nearly 1,200 one-hour parking spaces.

“There are more vehicles than ever at the airport, and we want to keep traffic moving, while providing safer access to our terminals,” said Sean Donohue, CEO, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. “These necessary changes will improve the overall customer experience as it relates to traffic flow, efficiencies and ease of navigation.”

Signs are currently posted at the airport, indicating the changing active loading and unloading zones. Passengers are encouraged to use the terminal garages throughout August, in advance of the change, but full enforcement begins Sept. 8.

Comparing February 2015 to 2018, vehicle traffic at the airport increased by more than 245,000 visits during the month. The airport experiences curbside congestion at all terminals at peak times. The change brings DFW up to speed with other large airports, which routinely do not allow curbside parking and idling.

After the active loading and unloading zones are implemented, the airport plans to shift transportation services based on customer needs.
