After recent terrorist attacks and an attempted coup this summer, Turkey’s tourism industry has taken quite a few blows. Carnival Corporation’s Cunard Line and P&O Cruises confirmed the cancelation of all calls to Turkey for 2017 because of ongoing concerns about the nation’s security.

The cruise lines replaced the calls in Turkey with stops in Greece and Albania. Cunard and P&O Cruises are not the first companies to pull out of sailing to Turkey.

“After careful consideration, we have taken the decision to remove Turkey from all itineraries in 2017 for both Cunard and P&O Cruises, based upon various sources including advice given by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth office,” Carnival Corporation said.

Cruise lines like Disney Cruise Line, Crystal Cruises and MSC Cruises, among others, canceled all calls in Turkey earlier this year after concerns escalated in July.

The U.S. State Department continues to warn Americans of increased threats and the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against travel within 10 kilometers of the Syrian border. The Federal Aviation Administration decided to ban all flights in and out of Turkey by United States aircraft in July.

“U.S. citizens should avoid travel to southeast Turkey and carefully consider the risks of travel to and throughout the country,” the U.S. State Department said in an Oct. 29 travel warning.
