Hilton recently announced the opening of Conrad Athens The Ilisian, marking the rebirth of one of Athens’ iconic landmarks. Formerly Hilton Athens, the property underwent a significant transformation.
Marking the brand’s debut in Greece, Conrad Athens The Ilisian brings 278 guestrooms and suites that are among the most spacious in the city. The Ilisian is a new mixed-use destination that united a vibrant line-up of restaurants and bars, a resort-style wellness offering anchored by Athens’ largest outdoor pool landscape, private residences and House of NYNN private members’ club.
The hotel evokes the feeling of an open-air gallery, with the original, one-of-a-kind, 620-square-meter, sculpted marble façades by Greek artist Yannis Moralis, a modernist sculptural tribute to classical mythology. By night, lighting designer Eleftheria Deko brings the façade to life.
AvroKO designed the inside spaces to pair preserved Mid-Century elements with newly commissioned artwork and bespoke pieces by historic Athenian atelier Saridis and ceramicist Eleni Vernadaki. Overseeing the art program and shaping the lobby alongside AvroKO is Mare Studio, the hotel’s art consultant and curator.
Guestrooms and suites deliver some of the city’s best views, with the majority featuring private balconies. The hotel offers Athens’ largest suite collection, including three Presidential Suites, a Royal Suite and, later this year, Omega Penthouse, complete with a private pool and panoramic vistas across the Acropolis and Aegean Sea.
Nine distinct dining concepts await across The Ilisian complex, including Byzantino, serving French and Greek classics, and all led by executive chef Angelos Lantos, the first Greek chef to earn two Michelin stars in Athens. Later this year, Galaxy Bar will return as Galaxy Dispensary and Galaxy Supper Club. A further line-up of restaurant concepts will also make their Athens debut at The Ilisian, alongside Japanese restaurant Onuki, designed by studio Yabu Pushelberg and opened in 2025.
Conrad Athens The Ilisian’s wellness offering blends recovery, movement and lifestyle, including Oasis, Athens’ largest outdoor pool, and a private running track, outdoor gym and pickleball court. Indoors, guests can access a wellness zone featuring a specialist gym; dedicated studios for yoga, Pilates, Gyrotonic and spinning; a heated pool; and heat and cold therapy facilities. Odei Wellness Residence boasts a curated menu of face and body treatments inspired by the rituals of ancient Greece. Later this year, Dr. Costas Papageorgiou brings longevity-focused treatments.
The hotel’s signature Conrad 1/3/5 experiences offer ways to engage with Athens at guests’ own pace. From golden-hour aperitivos overlooking the Acropolis to architectural walks and more, the three- and five-hour experiences go deeper into the city’s culinary and creative scenes with each experience tailored to personal interests.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
