Choice Hotels International released details on changes to its Choice Privileges loyalty program, which now allows members to earn points — and ultimately, cash — on rewards faster than previously possible.

U.S. members, for example, can now book a qualifying stay that includes at least one weeknight and receive one of five different rewards like savings on gas at Shell or Amazon.com gift cards. International members will have a choice of bonus points or airline miles. And now the gift cards are available digitally, so members don’t have to wait for them to arrive in the mail.

Another new feature is FlexRewards, allowing members to redeem a free night faster than previously allowed. Now, members need fewer points to redeem a stay at more than 1,500 properties. Earning points is overall easier too, with Choice Hotels awarding 10 points for every dollar spent at any one of the chain’s 5,500 properties, including the economy and extended-stay locations.

“While many rewards programs continue to decrease the value of benefits for their guests, we’re building a loyalty program that gives more and faster perks to travelers starting right when they join,” said Jamie Russo, vice president of loyalty and customer engagement, Choice Hotels, in a statement. “We have built these new features around guests, and we want them to feel constantly rewarded by the new Choice Privileges wherever their travels take them.”

Members will see their points expire unless they complete one qualifying activity every 18 months.
