Bullet trains in China got a little bit quicker last week when the nation approved and implemented a new top speed for the bullet trains on the Beijing–Tianjin high-speed line. The trains now travel at speeds of 350 kph.
The speed change means travel times between the cities will be cut by five minutes, from 35 to 30 minutes. A Fuxing Rejuvenation train, the newest-model bullet train developed in China, runs the line.
The fare between Beijing South Railway Station and Tianjin Railway Station will remain the same.
“Although the time was only five minutes shorter, I was excited to see the speed of 350 kilometers per hour on the display,” said passenger Zheng Yi, onboard the C2002 train from Tianjin Aug. 8, in a release from China.
In addition to the faster commute time between cities, the frequency of trains increased from 217 one-way services each day to 272 services daily.
