New Brunswick’s iconic Algonquin Resort reopens this spring following a $35 million renovation. Overlooking Passamaquoddy Bay in St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, the Tudor-style dates to 1889 when it welcomed summer guests from Boston, Montreal and New York.
The meticulous renovation included preserving architectural details, such as the half-timbered and stucco façade, 96 Juliet balconies and 16 second-floor patios. Glass in the structure’s 200 11-foot windows was replaced, outdoor event spaces were expanded and double-sided wood-burning fireplaces were converted to gas.
The first Canadian property in Marriott’s Autograph Collection, The Algonquin Resort features an 18-hole championship golf course (redesigned in 2000 by Thomas McBroom) and a new1,400-square-foot spa.
