With the rise of travel-related technology, travelers discover convenient self-service and personalized options on the go. According to a survey from the Global Business Travel Association and Sabre Corp., business travelers particularly love the ease and enjoyment technology brings to travel routines. North American and European travelers lead the pack, embracing self-service technology with gusto, as they manage travel options conveniently and in a way that makes sense for them. However, they’re still hesitant to give personal information in exchange for more tailored experiences. While they’re fine giving out loyalty membership numbers, preferred travel brands and other preferences, they shy away from revealing their travel history, social media accounts and business calendars. Business travelers prefer branded apps when checking in for flights, generating a mobile boarding pass or booking a hotel or flight. For most, travel management, itinerary management and expense management apps still have a long way to go, and most companies don’t recommend corporate travelers use any particular apps. European business travelers are more likely to use apps for booking train tickets or a taxi, while all business travelers are open to using apps for mobile payments when possible. Currently, apps allowing companies to track employee locations when traveling for work are under development. Many also allow users to alert their companies to an emergency with a single touch. Only a small number of companies use these apps presently, but 63 percent of business travelers polled said they would use them if available. “This report demonstrates how corporate travelers look to technology to make a more seamless experience,” said Clinton Anderson, senior vice president, strategy and traveler experience, Sabre Corp. “But it also reflects a crowded and fragmented technology landscape where travelers have to use multiple apps and services to manage their trip. We see an opportunity to integrate critical technologies into a single platform to help business travelers throughout their entire trip.” How do you use travel technology to personalize and manage your business travel experience? Would you use an app allowing your company to track your movement while traveling for business? Email us and let us know. Please include your full name and location with your email.
